worldtimeapi refresh failing

Hello,

I have a dashboard that has been using worldtimeapi.org to get a local timestamp in Eastern Time (I believe I found that source in a thread on this forum). Anyway, it has always worked great, but over the weekend, it started giving me this error on automatic refresh:

Data source error: DataSource.Error: <ccon>The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.. http://worldtimeapi.org/api/timezone/America/New_York. </ccon>. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface. Table: World Clock EST.
Cluster URI: WABI-US-EAST2-redirect.analysis.windows.net

Request ID: eebb3927-3ed9-4b12-bbe0-a79241de60a6
Time: 2023-07-24 14:12:12Z

When I go to the connection details, I can try to re-establish the connection. No credentials are needed for this API, but no matter how I try to configure it, I get this error every time:

Failed to update data source credentials: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.Hide details

Status code:	400

Service version:	13.0.21171.58
Client version:	2307.3.14839-train
Cluster URI:	https://wabi-us-east2-redirect.analysis.windows.net/

Anyway, does any one have any experience with something like this happening with this API or another similar one?

Actually, I don't think that's going to help. I thought I had success but now I'm getting a different error.

I think the issue is with the site and something to do with the TLS version.

Here's another free API that seems to work.

https://www.timeapi.io

That's always the risk with free APIs.

Depending on your use case, I'd recommend having the API calls in a Dataflow so you can reference that. At least then you'll only have one place to update if it needs to be changed in the future.

I think it's related to "http" can you try changing to "https".

Hello KNP,

I am trying to change the url in the web browser. I have made changes web browser and I am afraid that if I go back to the desktop version it will change everything and that will be a great issue. I tried following Edit data models in the Power BI service (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Learn but what I show is different from the images shown. However when I select either "setting" or "workbook setting" (In the Power BI service, select Settings for the workspace where you want to enable the preview feature.) I don't see this options (Advanced > Data model settings > Users can edit data models in the Power BI service). Below is what I see. I also found a video (Use your browser to edit your Power BI dataset within Microsoft Fabric), but "open data model" is grayed out. Maybe because I don't have Fabric.  I am using a PC. Screenshot 2024-10-21 160811.jpg

Hi, Did you find a solution to this? We have been experiencing the same issue, randomly started this month having ran smoothly for a year

Same here. I tried the suggestions, but none worked and there is not an issue with API provider. Have you found a resolution?

Hi, @ddcjoee

Here are some suggestions, you want to follow.

  1. Check if the API service (worldtimeapi.org) is down.
  2. Investigate if network issues, such as firewalls or proxies, are blocking your connection.
  3. Look into compatibility issues with your software.
  4. Consider if you're hitting the rate limit set by the API provider.
  5. If none of these work, contact the API provider or consult their documentation.
