SAP BW connectivity issue

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I've been trying to connect PowerBI to SAP BW using the in-built connector, however when I enter the credentials required (server, system number and client ID) and hit enter, all I get is a flashing empty box on screen, and looks like the program goes into an infinate loop which then requires me to CTRL ALT DEL to close PowerBI down.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so any ideas how to resolve?

Hi @rjm900,

Do you use the latest version of Power BI Desktop(2.38.4491.282) to connect to SAP BW? What operating system do you install Desktop on?

In your scenario, please go to File -> Options and settings -> Options -> Diagnostics and click "enable tracing", then connect to SAP DW and check the detailed logs in the traces folder. Also please help to post the detailed logs here.

Besides, please ensure that you install SAP NetWeaver library following the instructions in this article: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-sap-bw-connector/ .

Thanks for your response. I'm using the current version of PowerBI desktop, through Windows 7 - I can enter the server credentials and then all I get when I click ok is a flashing white box in the middle of the screen and the programme freezes.

The trace is giving me the following - any ideas??

Dear RJM,

Request you to follow below steps,

1. Try configuring the Power BI Enterprise Gateway and add data source.
2. Add data source via Power BI Portal as SAP BIW server.
3. See , if you are able to authenticate.

OR,

1. Try installing SAP GUI/Bex on same computer to check if issue is related to authentication or connectivity.

OR,

1. Please note, at least 8 GB of RAM with more than 4 Core Processor and Windows 8.1 or above OS, is necessary when working with external Databases.
2. The freezing might be because of OS. So, request you to try the connection through other computer.

OR

1. Please share the steps by step screenshot, for better understanding.

Also,

1. Please make sure the SAP NWRFC files used are not corrupted. (you may refer http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Integrations-with-Files-and/SAP-BW-Connector-SAP-NetWeaver-library-S... "

If the issue is still not resolved, please "Send a Frown" or rasie a ticket to Power BI Team.
