I had a Power BI data set that I had published to the Power BI service and it was working fine and would refresh in under 5 minutes. Suddenly, on 1/9/23, the query runs for 2 hours before eventually timing out. Row counts from 1/8 and 1/9 are roughly the same (roughly 1million rows). No changes to the report at all, other than refreshing every 3 hours.
When I download the PBIX and run it in PBI Desktop, I see the same slow results. However, if I pull the query from the .pbix file and run it through MySQL Workbench, the query runs in 5 minutes again. I was able to resolve the issue by deleting the query, then adding it back (exactly as it was before, no changes to the SQL of the query) and republishing, so the issue has stabilized for now, however I'm concerned about that behavior in general. My gut says it's a file corruption and that particular query was the one affected, but I'm concerned if this type of problem is not uncommon. I don't believe it is common because I haven't stumbled across the appropriate search terms to find a post discussing it. Has anyone see that type of behavior in Power BI before?
A few specifics about the setup of the dataset/environment:
Database is MySQL8
POWER BI Desktop Version: 2.112.603.0 64-bit (December 2022)
Using an On Premise Gateway
Using Custom SQL in import mode for the query in the dataset.
Any help in finding a root cause of this issue would be greatly appreciated.
