Parameters to set up in order to switch local user folder location and service one

Hi Guys,

I have 2 ways of loading data into power bi using *.pbip files.

So one is that user will open power bi desktop, power bi connect to his local folders using parameter or windows environment variable

Second data source is azue blob storage. How to switch between them ?

Best,
Jacek

Having a data source in a local folder is not a good idea.  Why would you allow a gateway to rummage around on your PC?

@lbendlin Because i need to import large files locally and not wait for blob storage minutes and hours.
This is why i need a switcher for both service load and local load.

How people are solving it in power bi world? There is no possibility to set it up?
Assuming that developer1 has local folder path and developer2 has another local folder path with csvs inside,
how you would organize it?

Best,
Jacek

I would not have that scenario. We don't allow our developers to use local paths.

So how you are using pbip projects and git? If you are using only service and download it to dekstop ? How to make changes and publish them after?

So assuming that i have service refreshed i am downloading report, and changing it and pushing to git as bpip project?

Only via OneDrive/SharePoint.

thank you.

Ok but if you are not using sharepoint, how your deployment pipeline is looking?

In my case:
1. bpip project created in power bidekstop
2. Pushed to service

That'is all.

Are you using the reverse engineering approach like:
1) power biservice report connected to cloud data sources
2) downloading report and changing it via power bi desktop
3) pushing to service and refreshing data

What approach do you have?
Best,
Jacek
