Hi Everyone,
Hoping you are all doing well! I need some help, and my company doesn't quite have the depth of knowledge in Power BI to resolve.
We've implemented a data mart and have dumped contents of our Dyanmics CRM into it (opportunities, anyway). I have been told to access this datamart via Power BI Datasets as the source (which I know nothing about).
Heres the challenge: once I'm connected to the data source, I don't have any sort of preview table where I can view the raw data.
When I attempt to open Power Query ("transform data"), i get some notice saying I need to set up Direct Query connection, which I know absolutely noting about.
I follow the "add a local model" prompts (whatever that means), and Power Query opens up, but no data tables show up, no raw data:
This is very new to me, but I think it might be native behavior with the data source I have to use, Power BI Datasets. I can't set up relationships, I can't clean the data, can't create calculated columns or index columns. If I attempt to create a NEW table (perhaps a reference calendar table), the prompt for DirectQuery connection comes up again.
In these situations, how do I go about executing all the typical things Power Query does for us??
Grateful for any guidance!
Chris
Have you updated Power Bi to the latest version? It's available in the OneLake data hub
Thanks
Joe

hey all - just giving this a little bump. Still looking for understanding on this.
Hi Chris
Sorry I missed this
Power Bi updates monthly. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494 and download the latest version.
To get updated when there is a new version go to Options > Updates and tick the box and Ok, you will then get a notification when a new update is available.
Thanls
Joe
No worries, thank you, @JoeBarry . I had a meeting internally, and they explained this really is a natural thing, for the way they've chosen to implement our new datamart. They have not told me how people typically use Power BI in these situations, which is what I'm really trying to understand (definitely not an updated-version issue). However, they're offering me access to connect directly to the server which solves all of this and gives me the Power Query access I'm used to, to manipulate the data and connect data sources like I need.
Hi @JoeBarry
I don't show Onelake data hub as an option for me. However, I just joined my company a couple months ago, so I really shouldn't be out of date.
This is your chance to engage directly with the engineering team behind Fabric and Power BI. Share your experiences and shape the future.
