Need help datatype for primary keys in DW

Hi,

I am working on POC on data warehouse. We primary use of it for Power BI reports.

We are using GUID almost every table in our transitional databases for primary key.

My question is, can we use GUID column when I create dimension and fact table in dw or better to replace with integer column. End of the day we will be using in Power BI dataset.

The reason I am asking, I am reading about keys and recommended approach is integer. If this is true statement, then I have to replace all guids with integer value and also have to create all my dimension tables with integer as primary key.

Could you please advise which is the best practice using guid or integer in my scenario?

Thanks

Ravi Potturi

Hello @pprasadravi

what you mean by keys? Keys in terms of primary keys in Power Query? I don't know anything about that this should be an integer, I only know that the column has to be unique. I also don't know what it means having GUID in a DW. I only know GUID from REGEDIT.
