Month - 3 Character abbrevition or short form

I would like the months abbreviated to 3 characters so its easier to look at.  I see the service date is getting divided to a hierarchy. Is there a way in options to change it so that I get January to look like Jan, February to look like Feb. Also after doing that, if it requires some sort of a function, is it going to still sequence correctly in the corect order.  Sometimes I know when I try to mess with text functions PowerBI does not realize the sequence of the months.

Thank you for reading.

Hi @wherdzik ,

Normally, I would solve this with a separete Date Dimension which is connected to the date attribute of your fact table. Then, in that Date Dimension, I would have all sorts of date related columns showing different formats of that date, i.e. YYYYMM, MMM, yyyy-mm-dd, but also stuff like IsWeekend, SameDayPreviousYear etc. Then all you need to do is to drag in the attribute you need for your Visuals and use case.

Using date dimensions are generally a best practice. Here some links:

Hope this helps 🙂
