Hello Microsoft Community,
I am currently facing a major issue with data discrepancies between SAP Production and Power BI, and I would appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community.
Issue Description: I have established a connection with the SAP HANA database and am pulling data into Power BI. While the number of rows and columns imported into Power BI match that of SAP Production , the actual data content does not. Specifically, data for certain material numbers and years exist in SAP Production but are missing or incorrect in Power BI. For example, specific data for material number ET80HT-100 and year 2024 exists in SAP Production but is missing or incorrect in Power BI.
Data Source: SAP HANA Database (connected to Power BI)
Power BI Connection Method: SAP HANA Database Connector
Verification: Extracted data from SAP Production for material number ET80HT-100 for the year 2024 in a certain table MARD does not match the data imported in Power BI. Infact, there is no 2024 data for the material number ET80HT-100 in Power BI as opposed to actual data existing in SAP Production.
Request for Assistance:
Your help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I continue to troubleshoot this issue.
Thank you!
Hello Gao,
Thanks for your revert!
I checked with our SAP consultants, and this doesn't seem to be a driver issue.
We've looked closely at SAP Production GUI and SAP HANA studio. There is a mismatch between the GUI and SAP HANA data especially when we look at the year column, LGJFA. So, this seems to be an internal SAP issue and not a Power BI issue.
Is there a way to set up a connection with SAP Production/GUI directly for Power BI as the data seems to be most updated there?
Instead of going the SAP HANA database route?
Thanks for your help so far. Looking forward to your revert.
Regards,
Merlyn
Hello Gao,
Thank you so much for replying to my message! Really appreciate it.
1. Our SAP HANA consultant has confirmed that the account that I use has access to read data from SAP HANA database in Production. Please let me know if this level of access suffices to access data in Power BI. At my end, when I query tables (using the advance option), I can access them. The nature of my query is such SELECT * FROM SAPHANADB.MARD.
2. As I am in the intial step of just transforming data, I haven't applied any transformation steps yet. Here's a snippet of what my current transformation looks like
3. Yes, I do make sure that the data is refreshed regularly.
4. I am not aware of HDI Container based Calculation View or the HDI runtime container. How do I check if I am using these calculation views in Power BI? I beleieve this is different from using native database query SQL statement?
5.I believe I have the latest version of Microsoft Desktop
I look forward to further guidance.
Regards,
Merlyn
Hi @Merlyn ,
Could you finally please double check the version of SAP HANA ODBC Driver?

1. First, make sure you are using an account with the same permissions to view/query the data.
2. Next check to see if a transformational step has been applied in PowerQuery that could affect the results.
3. Make sure that the data in Power BI Desktop is refreshed after making changes to the data source. You can refresh the data manually by clicking on the "Refresh" button.
4. If you are accessing HDI-container-based Calculation Views in Power BI, ensure that the HANA database users you use with Power BI have permission to access the HDI runtime container that stores the views you want to access.

5. Try updating to the latest version of PBI Desktop and then try connecting to the SAP HANA database.
