Fabric Git Integration with Service Workspaces

Background:

I recently setup the Git Integration with PBI Service Workspaces syncing with GitHub. I have about 30 workspaces that have a Test and Prod for each. I setup GitHub to have two branches Prod and Test that are then linked to the appropriate workspaces with the same directory naming structure between Prod and Test. Ideally I would be able to push changes to Test and then merge Test into Prod and have those changes move between the Test workspace and the Prod workspace. I had no issues with the export portion of the integration into GitHub all my reports have been changed into PBIP format and can be opened from desktop with a remote repository connection. Now when I attempt to sync between the workspaces I am getting errors for unsupported models.

Error code:

Workload Error Code Dataset_Import_FailedToImportDataset

Workload Error Message Import from JSON supported for V3 models only

This is a report that is already in the Service and is attempting to be Synced from Prod into Test so I can have a clean slate where the two environments match across the board. The report has no problem syncing into GitHub but when trying to reupload I get this error. It causes the full Git Update into the workspace with 20 other reports to fail. I have gotten quite a few of these incompatible reports. I deleted everything from the Test workspaces to make sure there wasn't naming conflicts or other issues when trying to setup my baseline.

Is there something I need to change on the report itself in Dekstop to make in able to re-upload into the workspace?

Hi @mpaquin ,

Could you please check the following info for further troubleshooting?

  • Ensure that the reports/datasets use the latest version of the data model and update it
  • Ensure all datasets and reports in both Test and Prod are using compatible versions
  • Check if it hit any limitations

The following thread is the ones which have the similar problems as yours, hope its solution can also help you.

Solved: Dataset_Import_FailedToImportDataset - Microsoft Fabric Community

I just talked to Microsoft support and they helped me work through this issue. Here's what I had to do.

1. In PBI Service, from the workspace where Dataset_Import_FailedToImportDataset occurred, create a new branch as decribed in this article

2. Open the affected report(s) in PBI Desktop and publish to the service

3. In the PBI workspace, validate the the conflict has been resolved and commit the changes to the branch created in step 1.

4. Merge the branch back into the source

5. Swap the workspace back to the source branch
