After creating a calculation group in my data model, I can no longer add a value field (e.g., data from a table column containing numerical data) to the "data field" of a visual. Values included in the data field of visuals that were created prior to the creation of the calculation group still seem to work. However, if I remove a value from a data field, I can't add it back. I can add it as a column header or a row header, but not as a data field. Neither can I add values to the data fields of any new visuals I create. I can add a calculated measure in the data field, but not the value itself. Big problem.
I can't find that anyone else is running into this issue. Let me know your ideas.
Thanks!

Calculation groups required the use of SELECTEDMEASURE. Implicit measures (those with the sigma sign) aren't picked up by SELECTEDMEASURE, only explicit measures. You would need to create an explicit measure for the data before it could be included in a calculation group.

I am looking for a solution for this, why values can't be added to data field in visualizations post creating calculations columns or table.

I know this was a while ago, but thank you for this!
Thanks for the response. Explicit in the sense we have to write it in DAX query right? I have currently joined tables and used group by from the options we have in Menu options.
I have 2 tables and want to validate date where column name are CREATED_DATE(TABLE NAME = "TBL_THEME_HISTORY") & VALIDATED_DATE (TABLE NAME = "TBL_BUSINESS_LOGIN") and then want to pick TOP theme used for that particular month. Anything you can suggest me here?
Could you please also suggest me the best PBI course link where I can get my queries clarified by using that video/document?
Thank you!!!!!
Explicit in the sense that you must create a measure, I believe. A value from a table will automatically be summed (implicit). Instead, you would need to create a measure (explicit) using that value, which could then be used in the calculation group.
I don't have any suggestions on your particular question but am sure there is a way to do it. My go-to source for questions I have is Guy in a Cube. Usually there is a video to answer my question. Alternatively, every Saturday morning there is a live forum where they answer questions, but it is usually more technical than I am able to understand.
Ok, here is a super simple table with Account, Date, Amount and a calculation group with a QTD calculation. Why can't I add a value field to the matrix visual? What am I missing. Everything in my model worked fine until I tried to add a calculation group. What am I missing?
Hi @enyberg ,

Could you please clarify what these words "a calculation group" , " a value field" and "data field" are referred to ? I am not sure what desired result would you want, could you please share your sample data and desired output screenshots for further analysis? You can also upload sample pbix to OneDrive and post the link here. Do mask sensitive data before uploading.
