Using Buttons with file or folder operations

Dear All,

as rather new with PBi, I have managed to load from a directory multiple excel files with multiple sheets into PBi and visualize data. The PBi tool I a want to create is meant to be deployed to the organisation and people shall be able to define the directory of their excel file as they want. For this pupose I created a parameter for folder name [SetFolder] made the queriy dynamic by this. I can modify this paramter by Menu item [Data transformation]- [Modify Parameter]. Then I can paste a folder path into the paramter field and off it goes. So job done but user experience is bad, as I know I will always receive questions about how to select an individual directory, as users will not have deep knowledge about PBi .

Question:

I would like to have a kind of button on my rport sheets, that will open a folder dialog allowing select a folder and returning as parameter the folder which can be asigned to the paramter SetFolder. Then users can press update.

I have even no clue whether this is possible at all in PBi, maybe with DAX or so, but could not find anything anywhere.

Any idea?

Thanks

I understand the need for a more user-friendly experience! Unfortunately, Power BI Desktop doesn't natively support folder selection dialogs directly through buttons or DAX. However, you can achieve this using Power Automate to create a flow that opens a folder dialog and updates the parameter.

Unfortunately, Power BI Desktop does not natively support folder selection dialogs or the ability to use DAX for file or folder browsing. You can choose a workaround using Power Automate/ Power BI custome API for the same. This can be challenging for non tech grads.
