FAQs:
It seems the ability to resize a group of report objects while maintaining their relative order and size is not possible with On-object editing mode, or am I missing something?
Tried it for 30 minutes just recently, turned it straight back off again.
It looks like the ability to summarized by % or grand total / row total is missing. That would be a feature I would like to see added back.
That feature is there, but it's not under the Data Options button. You have to right-click on the field in the field well.
Largely I find On-Object Interaction a really annoying and unnecessary feature.
It creates extra clicks without added value, on small laptop screens, which many of my students use, the extra fly-out panels duplicate already visible features and take up valuable screen space, and it adds a level of extra complexity for no reason that I can discern. Often, when I am teaching courses on Power BI, the students get irritated with it, complain and I have to show them how to turn the feature off, or risk it depressing my evaluation scores.
Perhaps I am missing the point, but I'm afraid I can't see anything positive about this feature at all. Please, please don't make it permanent!
Will there be anymore updates coming soon for On-Object Interactions?
It seems like this has been forgotten.
If I import the Deneb Visual. I am not getting Any options to Customise the Visual now.
I go back and forth on enabling this feature due to pros and cons (many already mentioned in previous comments).
Pros:
Cons:
Future Improvements:
1. There should be a quick way to turn off on object edits - as an EU it us hard to see the entire report with this enabled
2. There is no way to test visual interactions with this feature enabled
3. Having to select the elements on the right (build, format, data etc) with each visual is annoying they should all stay visable until you hide them
4. Resizing on grouped visuals is no longer working and it is very difucult to select an individual visual within the group
5. The on object edit in the dialogue box needs to be adjustable - it is too small
I concur with @maggiepruden. The bar on the right to switch between panes and having only one pane open at a time is the most useful improvement over the legacy UI. I would prefer to the have the option "Show only one active pane" set to on by default : I see many beginners struggling with 3+ panes open before someone eventually shows them the option.
I find the on-object format button totally useless. Yet, I got used to the on-object build pane, i.e. starting by clicking in the field well to pick a field as opposed to drag fields from the data pane. I leave the format pane open on the right and use the on-object build pane for most of the design. This way I only occasionaly need to open another pane.
I love the buttons on right side to open the separate Data/Build/Format/Sync Slicer panes. I also love the ability to keep a format pane open while switching between visuals to compare settings. It makes fine-tuning formats and ensuring consistency so much quicker.
However, I DETEST the buttons hovering on top of my visuals wanting to give me alternate ways to create and format the visual. They are hiding things I need to see and get to, and I've found no way to get rid of them without losing the feature above.
Please make these separately-controlled features, as they likely appeal to different groups of users.
The worst feature or lack thereof is the INability to see the used columns/DAX Measures marked with a green tick. The second worst, or possiby even worse, is the inability to click and drag said columns/Measures into or up and down the Rows, Columns and Values boxes. if the "modern/on-object" is made the default UI, PLEASE, please DO NOT SWITCH OFF the "Classic View". The following is a screen capture in the "Classic [non-modern] View". Please keep the click and dragging and the green ticks of used columns/Measures.
I had it on for a while but turned it off - it's not useful when it doesn't have nearly any options to change at all. Plus the "format it for me" isn't very smart.
When selecting the 'Data Options' arrow in the 'Format' pane a dialog box opens up which allows you to select which field or measure you want to put in the bucket (see Image below). That dialog box cannot currently be widened so we can see the full name of the field or measure. The only way to see the full title is to hover over it and wait for it to be displayed. Can we please have this dialog box expandable?
When adding a date to a viz, with the preview, we're only allowed to use the date hierarchy. Please be sure to include the option to show the full date in whatever format desired.
Please give us the option to turn off the 'Suggest a Visual' box that pops up every time we add a field into the bucket of a visual as seen in this image. As well as the two annoying icons to the left of the pop up box that only take up needed space.
Messy, clutters the space as trying to create visuals. Also, when visuals are placed all the way to edge of canvas those buttons the "quick format" interface overlaps other functions and frustrates the poop out of me.
Being able to click portions in a visual and have the format pane navigate to it for edit is great...but not worth the cluttered look and feel.
Faço das minhas palavras as palavras dela. Arranquem esse objeto interativo, que ela circulou na imagem, de lá. Ficou ótimo tudo, exceto esses objetos flutuantes. Eles me atrapalham MUITO!
My favorite part of this is the groupings. It makes grabbing a visual that much easier.
Hi,
I tried (again) to use, and I backed to the "old" way (again).
The interface is still not as fluid as the old one.
For example, it is hard to pick any element and move it. I tried with visualizations, and you need to put the mouse pointer in an exact position. It also happens when you try to change the fields' order in the list associated with a visualization.
Another point is for each field that you add to a visualization using the right panel, the floating panel opens on the visualization, covering a part of it.
All these things are annoying.
The product, in general, is confusing. We have tons of differences between visualizations, like number format.
Number in a TABLE:
Number in a Card (New)
Number in a REFERENCE LINE (no Bold, font, etc...)
And it is only an example.
Regards.
