I am here once again to ask Microsoft officially. How can you justify investing so much money into On Object, when you have UX issues that have been requested by thousands of users and that have led to hundreds of forum posts and discussions and that continue to go completely ignored by Microsoft.

Take this feature request as an example: A "Select All Results" option after typing something into the slicer search box. This is behavior, that Excel has had in it's column filter for a decade I believe. This cannot be expensive nor complicated. And yet, there isn't even a comment or official status upate on this feature on the Idea platform.

Or this one to expand/collapse Matrix columns, similar to what Excel offers. It has over 10,000 votes, going back to 2018.

Us developers, we are happy working with the UI of the current Power BI front end. We don't need On Object Interaction. At the same time, the report viewers, who are coming mostly from Excel and EXPECT equally intuitive behavior, complain to us on a daily basis why features like "select all" for slicer search results, are not possible.

So please focus on improvements for report viewers, make that as intuitive as possible, improve the visuals, spend your thousands of hours of resources on those issues, instead of on things like on-object interaction that really nobody asked for and that appears to be consuming endless of your resources while ignoring feature wishes on your idea platform.

Another month. Another buggy release. Another complaint that goes unanswered. The new Power BI.

I just download the latest PBI version, within 10m of use, I already found a bug. Previous releases were also bug-ridden, for example, right-click copy data from table didn't work in March release, etc.

It seems to me MS is devoting more and more development to "fancy" stuff like Co-pilot, OOI, most of which are cosmetic (so far), but spent little time on improving core / fundermental functions and utility of PBI, or really listen to the community requests. This is the opposite direction I think the product should go.

this is a trend we see in our own company's software development teams too. It kind of is human nature. It is a lot more fun and exiting to work on innovative, flashy new technology and put that on your resume  than to fix a whole list of small usability issues that wont WOW anybody and bring PowerBI to the same standards as Excel 2013. So the software development teams, their managers and leaders, etc. all focus on the flashy new stuff that also brings them internal recognition  and twist themselves into pretzels to come up with justifications that this is what customers REALLY need and want.

@RosieL: 2.128.1177.0 - this release dropped on 4/24/2024. After ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS and TICKETS OPENED and PROMISES MADE on behalf of Microsoft, the pane selections are STILL NOT PERSISTENT. IT HAS BEEN MONTHS NOW, and you still don't have your act together. So, here I go to revert back to the January release. AGAIN. What a joke.

I would really like my choises in 'customize pane switcher' to be persistent. Now I have to costomize them every time I open PBI desktop. Moreover: they are small icons, so why not always show them all?

Hi,

I'm liking the experience overall except for the right-side panes sometimes being deselected. For example, I always want to use this combination:

Nukibah_0-1713946122553.png

However, if I eventually select the performance analyzer icon, for example, it'll deselect these three panes and I'll need to CTRL + click on them again, which becomes pretty annoying.

It would be great to have a toggle button to choose whether I want that field always pinned since the start of the program. It could easily be implemented here next to the toggle button for showing the pane, like choose either to show pane or show and pin pane:

Thanks for hearing us out!

100% agree with this, says exactly what I was going to comment but in a much clearer way than I could have!

Hi

I enjoy the On-object interaction, but do not like the Build Pane. How do yuou stop it from been activated when you open the Power BI Desktop. At the moment i always have to close it and then the the On-Object Intereaction returns to the Visual

makes the screen too busy and too much jumping around.  the eye can't stay focused.  drives you crazy

Two bits of feedback from me. The whole red areas below should be clickable to close the panes.

The icons below should support mouse hover to allow the use the hover over the icon, open the pane, select what they need and then close again on mouse out.

I feel your pain brother! Esepcially with #1.... OMG, every trivial Windows app for the past 3 decades can remember the state of the UI. It's especially relevant nowadays with so many moitor resolutions. Everyone who uses PBI desktop in any serious manner will have a preferred desktop/screen config. It's not rocket science to remember pane sizes!

I just tested March release, there are some welcome changes, but 2 fundermental issues remain. I attach screenshots below:

1) PBI still doesn't remember user choice of pane selection: from screenshot, you can see comparison before & after. User is forced to repeat the same selection EVERY TIME a pbix file is opened, which is absurd. Why this issue reported by many wasn't fixed? Why don't we simply have all the icons selected by default? It's much easier to click an icon to open/close a pane than clicking "+" to select it again, it doesn't save any screen space anyway.

2) The "suggest a visual" icons appear on visuals even though user specifically unchecked the option. This is disrespect of user choice. User shouldn't be forced to use OOI, it should be an option to be turned on/off depending on level of comfort/expertise of indivisual user

3) Less critical, but why can't the "Filter" icon be moved to the same selection pane? Currently user can only show/hide filter pane from a very specific place on top menu, not convenient. It'd be much easier to put it on the selection pane. It is also completely missing from PBI online - there is no way to turn it on/off online.

I hope MS team could make more improvements soon.

Thank-you. Came here to post just this.  Especially 2. The constant 'suggest a visual' popping up is driving me nuts.  Loving all the work going into this but it would be good if some these things could be turned off if not needed.

MS had indicated in a previous response to this issue that they had already locked in the March update before they were notified that the pane status retention had been broken. They promise that the fix will be included in the April update.

I'm glad I didn't bet on that. I just installed the latest release, and there's some fancy stuff going on with the pane manager thingy, but the MAIN issue, the ONE issue they should have corrected has not been corrected: your selections are still not permanent. I'm off to raise hell now, because it was ridiculous before, now I'm seriously LIVID.
