I am unable to publish a report through power bi it shows
"Sorry we encountered an error while trying to sign you in, Details : The browser based authentication dialog failed to complete
Reason : The server or proxy was not found."
Pl help in resolving this issue
** Authentication Issue
I tried turning off my firewall and running my windows defender but that didn't work.
I enabled the stack trace in Power BI and saw the error messages. There is an issue with PowerBI being able to authenticate my username. For TFS and some other applications I believe it connects automatically to my vpn once I log in but I noticed it does not with Power BI.
I went in and made sure that my VPN was connected and then it worked. It prompted to restart the Power BI desktop but then I was able to login.
I got same situation with the newest version today: Version: 2.46.4732.581 64-bit (May 2017).
Are you successfully signed in on the Desktop? You can turn on tracing to see what is going on, go to File | Options and settings | Options | Diagnostics and click "enable tracing". Try to publish and then go check your trace folder.
I am guessing that if this is not an intermittent issue, that there it is a firewall or proxy issue of some sort.
Estimados buenas tardes, a mi me esta saliendo el siguiente mensaje al momento de logonearme en el Power BI desktop
Unable to sign in
"Sorry we encountered an error while trying to sign you in, Details : The browser based authentication dialog failed to complete
Reason : The server or proxy was not found."
La version instalada es:
Version: 2.37.4464.361 64-bit (julio de 2016)
In my case I solved by disabling the antivirus .

Hi, I am having the same issue here. Disabling firewall did not work.
Any other idea?
I just had the same issue connecting to Azure API (Azure embedded service) and I just can't believe, but this is what worked for me:
I noticed that in Action center (I'm using Win10) I had message, that I have not run Windows defender for some time - after I did a Quick scan - I tried to run my application again, and now this problem was gone.
So I suppose anti-virus is doing some silent content blocking if some stuff it asks is not done.
Security is very important, but having a bit more descriptive information would be all to spare some painful moments
