Hi @ahmedshalabyy12 ,

@BhavinVyas3003 , response is good. Using Tabular Editor to open the .bim file and deploying it to a Premium backed workspace or local SSAS allows you to connect directly from Power BI Desktop via Get Data > Analysis Services. This method is best for reusing a semantic model in a PBIX file.

For additional context, Tabular Editor is a powerful tool for managing Power BI and Analysis Services models. It supports connections both locally and in the cloud (with XMLA Read/Write enabled), and lets you view and edit tables, relationships, measures, and metadata in an intuitive interface. This makes building and maintaining data models more efficient than using Power BI alone.

Thanks & regards,
Yugandhar.

Hello,
I deployed the model.bim to the workspace then opened a power bi file and get the data as a semantic model from the workspace but it's connected as live connection i need the data view to refresh the tables and get the data again and the relationships between the tables .
i tried to save it as pbix but the same

Thanks for the update. Based on your description, it seems you're aiming to use the .bim file in Power BI Desktop to get full access such as viewing the Data view, refreshing tables, and managing relationships, similar to working with an imported model. However, when you connect to a semantic model deployed in a workspace, Power BI creates a live connection. This allows you to use all tables and measures, but you can't refresh data or access the Data view in Power BI Desktop.

It's also important to note that .bim files store only the structure of the model (tables, relationships, measures), not the actual data. So, connecting to it means you're using the model live, not a local data copy.

If you need full control to edit, refresh, and manage the data in Power BI Desktop, rebuilding the model in Import mode is the best option.

Hi @ahmedshalabyy12 ,

  • Open the model.bim file in Tabular Editor. From Tabular Editor, you can inspect and manage tables, measures, relationships, and metadata.

Use Tabular Editor to open the .bim file, then connect it to a workspace or local Analysis Services instance. After deploying the model to a workspace backed by a Fabric Premium capacity or SSAS/Power BI XMLA endpoint, open Power BI Desktop and connect using Get Data > Analysis Services with the workspace/model name. This way, you can use all tables, measures, and relationships defined in the .bim file inside Power BI.

Thanks,
Bhavin
