Importing PowerBI Online Dashboard to Power BI Desktop
Hello,
I have developed a dashboard using SharePoint online list data for my IT asset management. I want to integrate this dashboard into one of the SharePoint sites we created for Intranet purposes to understand the availability of IT resources and cost details.
For some reason, I couldn't get the integration done. I tried importing the dashboard from Published PoweBI online to Power BI Desktop or Microsoft Fabric but was unsuccessful.
I do not want to create a new dashboard in PoweBI Desktop but I would like to use the same one that I already created in PoweBI Online.
I need your support to get this task done.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Barakath

Actually, there is no download button in the PowerBI online dashboard.
I guess the screenshot you and other person shared that took from Microsoft Fabric page.
If I can see my dashboard on the Microsoft Fabric page, I could have done it. But, it is not showing in there.
Additionally, the dashboard is connecting the data from the SharePoint Online list that is only visible when integrating power bi. Please see the screenshot below

Hi All,
Firstly shamili and rajendraongole1 thank you for yours sloutions!
And @iambarakath ,It looks like you want to take the Power BI dashboard created in sharepoint and store it in the site right? But unfortunately the dashboards we create in Sharepoint are limited and we can't see them in other workspaces, they exist in a special workspace!
If you don't want to recreate a dashboard using power bi desktop, here is my little suggestion, because in power bi service only report can have this option to embed in sharepoint, and dashboard is not embeddable return error, then in this case we can generate a In this case, we can generate a quic link to help us jump to that page, so as to reduce your unnecessary burden.
Difference between Report and Dashboard:
At this point we make an embedding return error because we don't have the permissions or functionality to do so.
Our alternative is to use a quic link to help us make a jump, hope this helps!
Hope it helps!

Dear @rajendraongole1
I am pretty sure it's not about the data but I doubt the ability to integrate the PBI Online dashboard into PBI Desktop.
As mentioned earlier, I dont see the dashboard in Microsoft Fabric personal workspaces. I tried to import it but had no luck.
I checked on the requirement in Microsoft Copilot and I got the below message
I really do not prefer to redo everything on the PBI Desktop.
Any advice ?

Hi @iambarakath - To integrate your existing Power BI dashboard (already created in Power BI Service) into a SharePoint site, there’s a more direct way to do this without needing to import it into Power BI Desktop. Instead, you can embed your Power BI dashboard directly into SharePoint Online, which will display your dashboard in real-time, along with any data updates.
If your goal is simply to view the dashboard in SharePoint, there’s no need to re-import the dashboard into Power BI Desktop. Power BI Service is already optimized for integration with SharePoint Online, making this approach simpler and more efficient.
Go to Power BI Service: Open your dashboard in Power BI Service.
Get the Embed Code:
In Power BI Service, click on the “File” menu, then select “Embed report” and choose “SharePoint Online”.
Copy the link provided. This is the special URL you’ll use to embed the dashboard in your SharePoint site.
Add Power BI Web Part in SharePoint Online:
Go to the SharePoint site where you want to embed the dashboard.
Edit the SharePoint page, and add a Power BI web part (you can find it by selecting the “+” icon to add a new web part).
Paste the Power BI link you copied earlier into the web part configuration.
Adjust any settings as needed, then save or publish the SharePoint page.
Hope this details helps.

Dear Rajendra,
First of all, I would like to thank you for your response and for trying to help me with PBI issues.
Actually, I cant find the embedded code from PowerBI Online. I can only find very limited option on the online version. Additionally, the dashboard I created is not appearing on the Microsoft Fabric workspace.
I have PowerBI Pro license assigned but really don't know how to bring the dashboard into PowerBI Desktop.
Is there anyway to reach you out on MS Teams to have a quick call if possible?

Barakath

Hi @iambarakath -You're welcome, and I’m glad to help! Let’s go through some additional options to address the challenges you’re facing. Unfortunately, I can’t join you on a call, but I’ll do my best to guide you here.
If you’re unable to find the embed code in Power BI Service, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- Limited permissions: Embedding options may be restricted by your organization’s admin settings.
- Report vs. Dashboard: Embedding is generally done at the report level rather than the dashboard level in Power BI. Make sure you’re opening the report in Power BI Service.
- Go to Power BI Service and open the report you want to embed.
- Look for the File menu or Share button (depending on your organization’s configuration).
- If you see the option, select Embed report > SharePoint Online.
Unfortunately, Power BI doesn’t support direct downloading of dashboards from the online service to Power BI Desktop.
