How to Resize Bar Width in Clustered Column Chart or decrease Space between columns

How can someone show me how increase the thickness of columns in my visual, see below:

Just a note.

If you are attempting to do this and there seems to be no response from the chart, check your x axis settings. If you are set to Continuous you will have 1 pixel width lines and no way to adapt them.  Change your settting to Categorical and then you get all the available functions mentioned in the solutions.

Hi @caplogic,

You can increase or decrease the thickness of the columns in a clustered column chart using the property "Minimum Category Width" available in X-Axis/ Y-Axis settings (X-Axis in your case) in the formatting visual settings.

Default Settings

Minimum Width Possible (see the horizontal scroll bar gets removed)

Increasing Width

Also, you can change the gaps between columns in the bar chart and the width of the columns by playing with the following 3 properties available in the "Columns" settings

1. Space between categories
2. Space between series
3. Overlap

For Example You may increase Space between categories as shown below, which might also lead to thinning of columns

But if you turn on Overlap and increase the space between series, you can increase the thickness of bars

Just play around with all these settings and see what configurations suit you the best. Let me know if you need any further help!

Hi Bipin,

Thanks for getting in touch. However, your suggestion does not result in a suitable fix. I think I need someone to show me how to reduce the padding between the bars and then I can fix the width.

Hi @caplogic,

I see. I thought turning on "Overlap" and increasing "Space between Series" would have solved your problem as it does increase the width of the bars, but I guess it's still not meeting your requirements of reducing padding (though visibly, it does reduce distance between bars).

Hi Bipin-Lala, yes, that is what I need. I did think playing with the overlap, but I didn't think it would solve the spacing ...
