I have the following table:
I needo to create a hierarchy using matrix visual as a tree. But I need to show the VALUE field next to the task name. The problem is that It's showing the calculated value (average) of the child rows.
Here is the table I managed to create, but the VALUE field is incorrect:
I am also attaching an example .pbix file with the way I managed to handle the hierarchies. I think it is a bit complex, but this is how I was able to do it.
Any ideas are very welcome; I am having a lot of difficulty with this.
To add to @lbendlin's reply, if you want to implement hierarchies properly, you really need to acquire a copy of Russo and Ferrari's Guide to DAX . They have an entire chapter dedicated to heirarchies, and IMHO, the topic is complex enough with pitfalls etc. that without detailed study, there is little hope of implementing it correctly.
However, the upside is that when done right, this is one of the most powerful features of PowerBI, and your users will love it!
Hi, Thanks, the answer is great and yes, it is a weird hierarchy..
There are only 2 situations that I can't understand:
1 - The name of the task could repeat, I think you are using the name to compare and I can't figure out how to change it
2 - You are using ALL, so it's affecting the slicers and filters and always showing everything, that's not clear why yoy are using the ALL
Again, thanks for your answer and if there is any doubt on my question, please let me know.
The name of the task could repeat, I think you are using the name to compare and I can't figure out how to change it
then what you have is not a hierarchy, but a mess. Multi parent hierarchies are a nightmare to work with, you need to clone the children to make them unique (that sentence alone is utterly crazy)
Please provide sample data that fully covers your issue.
Please show the expected outcome based on the sample data you provided.
I understand your point, but if you take a look, I have the ID column. the ID never repeat, but I need to show the NAME column.
The case is simple, it's a hierarchy of task and I could have by example:
- Task create wall
-- Check Budget
- Task create rooftop
-- Check Budget
