Filtering by Legend

 am using a Clustered Bar Chart which has multiple entries in the legend as shown below;

 

When I click on an entry in the legend it highlights the entries in the chart as shown below.

 

Is there a way to only show the highlighted bars and remove the other bars when clicking on entries in the legend. And even more specifically is there a way to use the Slicer so that it can show the Legend entries and filter accordingly?

Thought I'd add the solution here for anyone looking in the future, it's actually a setting that can be toggled. Doesnt need a workaround. Found it in format -> edit interactions

Change this from highlight to filter

Are you able to do this on the actual visual that has the legend though? Edit interactions typically only lets me toggle Highlight vs Filter on all the other visuals on the page, but doesn't have that option for the currently selected visual or chart.

You can use the slicer visual, and i think by using this your other problem will also go away.
Add the slicer to your dashboard and add the axis from your bar chart.

Is slicer the only option? I have a legend with cca 20 items (that don't fit above or below chart) and using a slicer is like duplicating the legend list. 

Using just the legend would be an ideal solution.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

I have the same type of question - Here is a possible reason to filter by legend.  I have a map that displays Work Order locations at an airport on a map visualization.  I want to use the colored type of Work Order legend (same colors as bubble GPS locations on the chart).  Right now, clicking on the legend only results in highlighting the selected legend in bubbles (very difficult to see this selection)- I want to "filter" out other legend displayed bubbles using the selected legend.  Using the legend removes my need to add a slicer to accomplish this filtering.  Why have an additional slicer when I can just select the legend and remove all other bubbles on my GPS map? Thanks for any ideas on how to use the legend as a filter.

I would also appreciate an answer to this-I have someone using summary data in a matrix, so it's not possible to use a slicer visual to filter.
