Error connecting to remote Oracle server - ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact

I'm having issues connecting to a remote Oracle database. Getting a TNS Lost contact Error.

A couple things to note:

  • I have previously connected to on-prem servers successfully, so oracle client is installed
  • Server infomation entered in non-ezconnect format (per vendor request) (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=host_name)(PORT=port_num))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=service_name))). Host, Port, and Service names are all entered correctly.
  • My IP has been whitelisted on the VPN tunnel to the server. Though, I'd have to check again to be 100% positive on this.
  • Database Credentials are entered correctly

Anyone else experience similar issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi @Anonymous ,

At first, you could restart the listening service and check if it works.

If the issue still exists, please follow this blog to get a workaround:

Hi @Anonymous

Speculative stab at a solution but I have had users with problems connecting to Oracle DBs when using Power BI installed from the Microsoft Store (they have the necessary ODACs etc. installed on their machines). I usually direct them to the latest version of Power BI from the official site and upon updating/installing this version it solves their issues. There must be some necessary drivers in the version available here vs the store.

That's a good thought Kris! Unfortunately, this did not fix the issue.
