Enabling Inbuilt Copilot in Power BI Desktop

Hi,
I’d like to enable the inbuilt Copilot feature in my Power BI Desktop.
I’m currently located in Sydney, Australia, and I’m using my Admin account to set this up.

But still the co-pilot assistance is missing.

Hi @ashmitp869

You should be able Copilot from the home tab but this requires at least F64 capacity. If you don't have such, you can't use copilot. Note: a trial capacity cannot be used.

Thankyou, @Khashayar and @danextian for your responses.

Hi ashmitp869,

We appreciate your enquiry via the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Based on my understanding of your description and the screenshot, the tenant level Copilot setting is enabled, which is good. However, please note that Copilot is currently available only in Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop (Preview) when the workspace is hosted on a paid Fabric (F2 or higher) or Power BI Premium (P1 or higher) capacity. If your workspace is on a trial or shared capacity, or if your Desktop version is outdated, the Copilot option will not appear.

Please follow the steps below, which may help to resolve the issue:

  1. In Power BI service, go to workspace settings and confirm that the workspace is assigned to a Fabric F2+ or P1+ capacity. Trial capacities are not supported.
  2. Go to the Admin portal and, under Tenant settings, ensure that "Users can use Copilot and other features powered by Azure OpenAI" is enabled for your user group.
  3. Install the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Open a report, select Copilot from the ribbon, and choose a Copilot enabled workspace.
  4. Ensure you are an Admin, Member, or Contributor in that workspace. Also confirm that your Fabric home region supports Copilot.

Thank you.

Hi, I hope my answer can help you

Copilot is currently available only in Power BI Service (Fabric).

The Copilot feature you enabled applies to the web version of Power BI, not Power BI Desktop.

To access Copilot:

  1. Go to https://app.powerbi.com
  2. Sign in using your Admin or licensed account.
  3. Open a workspace that’s hosted in a Fabric capacity (F64 or higher).
  4. You should see the Copilot icon on the top bar or in the Explore tab.

Please note that Power BI Desktop does not yet support Copilot; its integration is planned for a future release.

If you found this post helpful, please consider accepting it as the solution so that other members can find it more easily.
