Hi everyone,
I'm trying to add a custom column in the data view that calculates the absolute value of another column in the data. PowerBi is telling me that it doesn't recognize the expression.
My expression is written as follows:
=ABS([Balance])
I'm not sure what to try next. My internet research told me to write the syntax as I have above. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Colin

If you are going column to column I would suggest using the query editor. Here is a link with the expression you need:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt253322.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
Perhaps the DAX requires it to be in a measure instead of a column. Not sure, haven't used it myself.

All set. Thank you so much! That link will prove really helpful.
You could do this equation: if [column] <0 then [column]*-1 else [column]
Can you post a picture so we see where this is happening?
EDIT: I should have read the Title
in the Query Editor - nevermind ![]()
So that link should help!
Thanks for the reply Sean. The link kcantor sent did the trick.
