SharePoint Document Library Metadata
I have a Document Library in SharePoint that I host reports used in Power BI. I created a column called "Document Type" that I utilize to select the report(s) in Power BI. When I connect PBI to the SharePoint folder the metadata/column doesn't show, only the preexisting columns/metadata such as "Author" and "ID".
How can I show the columns/metadata that I created?
The SharePoint folder connector is meant to expand files, not get metadata. Try the SharePoint list connector instead (yes I realize it's a library - trust me). If you need both the file content and the metadata, you can do two queries and merge them to combine.

Your point here has helped me in confirming about capturing metadata with sharepoint list. I checked with folder, odata as well, it did not capture metadata I am looking for. I am looking for a particular metadata - Retention label. When I connected using online list 2.0, it did not show the sub folder items, but with sharepoint online list 1.0, I was able to expand column attributes and capture the Retention label.
Is this an ideal approach to use list 1.0 to capture the metadata?
What do you suggest. Please advise.

Hi AILearn2008 -To access custom metadata columns like "Document Type" from a SharePoint Document Library in Power BI, you need to follow a process that ensures custom columns are available when you connect Power BI to the SharePoint folder.check the "Document Type" column is properly configured in SharePoint as a Managed Metadata or Choice column, as sometimes custom columns don't propagate if they aren't set up correctly.SharePoint can have caching issues, so it might take some time for the metadata to be fully visible in external tools like Power BI.

I've made a test and encountered the same problem you mentioned.
When I tried christinepayton 's suggestion and successfully retrieved the file metadata by connecting the data source using SharePoint Online list.
