synchronization time with directquery

Hello,
Thank you for reading my post, I'm not a PowerBi regular user.
My collaborator has a synchronization problem with DirectQuery, either on PowerBi Desktop or on PowerBi online with the on-premises gateway.
It takes a lot of time when we are on the same network as the db server, and on powerbi online or with a VPN connection, the loading never ends.
How could I improve the response time?
Thank you for your answer,

Hi @Maroussia ,

This is an issue with potential many different areas of concern.  Since you mentioned  VPN I would be considered first about network speed.  Some organizations have their VPN significantly throttled - even though your PC's speed and network connections are great, the VPN is not.  I would suggest a network trace (like using Fiddler) and seeing what bottlenecks appear.

After network, there are potential issues within your queries themselves - you can use the Performance Analyzer on that.  Or, it could be your data source itself - is that allowing for reports to be run efficiently.

Again, I would suggest that you start with the network (ports, firewalls, anti-virus programs, security settings, etc. etc.)
