scheduled refresh error for SQL server

IMG_1280.png

Hello! I am connecting data from company's SQL server to PBI dashboard. I am using on premise gateway (personal mode): I've published dashboard to service, and when I manually click refresh, the dashboard updates as expected. However, when I set it to scheduled refresh, I keep getting the error above, even when I'm online on my laptop. Please help!

Hey @Teeefarnee ,

please check this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-admin-troubleshooting-power-bi-personal-gateway?wt.mc_id=DP-MVP-5003068

When you write "... even when I'm online ..." you are aware that the gateway machine must be online for a successful  scheduled refresh.

Regards,
Tom

Thanks Tom!
OK sorry just a bit confused now. I have both the personal and normal on-premise gateway installed on my computer. How will PBI service know which one to connect to?

Hey @teeefarnee1

it's not enough to configure a gateway connections on a gateway (cluster).

The 2nd step must be to assgin the gateway connection to the dataset:

This makes sure that the dataset "knows" which gateway. Of course, it's not the dataset that knows this, instead it's the Power BI Services that is managing the mapping of gateway connections to datasets.

Hopefully, this is reducing some of your confusion.

Regards,

Tom.
