i dont see how the api can scan for strings in report names etc

hi i made some progress at https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Service/where-are-the-rest-api-commands-being-run-from/m-p...  on overcoming limitations in the service when it comes to scanning workspaces for strings.    but my effort  seems to have dead ended so i marked one poster's remarks as the solution there and have come here to ask the obvious.   How does this gui lend itself to scanning ws's for a string in report names, dashboards, headings, labels etc where the string is one of our machines named CutRight (i made that name up for proprietary reasons) ?    am i back at square one?

Hi,

Please check with your tenant admin they might be storing the activity logs/audit logs of your Capacities. And in that data you can search for the report name.for more details you can refer this -

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/admin/reports-get-reports-as-admin

If you want to search something inside the all reports.I'm 100% sure there are no shell commands to do it.You have to seach reports manually by opening every report.

Thanks,

Sai Teja

ok, am i interpreting what you are saying correctly?   1.  the api cannot really scan (on strings ) as i thought,   2) scanning using the search box in the service is useful (i've seen it) even on labels etc but thats only as long as i have at least viewer on every ws i want to hit,  3) maybe up in the logs there's some metadata that might be useful otherwise on string searches.

my understanding is that even with viewer an owner can still hide things from viewers perhaps with groups and other functionality available in pbi, is that true?   if i get a higher admin than fabric and power platform, might a regular search in the service give me more coverage without me requesting access on over 100 ws's?   what might that admin level be called?
