hi, in this post, the answerer mentioned a "dumpster" strategy whereby a single higher tiered/horsepowered workspace could be shared by multiple pbi users to get copilot to roll their report for them https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Desktop/getting-the-full-copilot-experience/m-p/4352359#M1... .
is there a way that i can get a ballpark extimate of the cost of such a workspace if we have 20 such users across the company who want to use it in this fashion? those 20 already have a pro pbi license each. if the answer depends on how often they'd go to the well, i'd say 10 times each per year. if the answer also depends on level of complexity of each report i'd say on a scale of 1-10 maybe a 5.
i have to admit that ms licensing for pbi is tough for me to understand. in a recent survey from them, i suggested a bit more clarity on this subject, ie write the documentation in such a way that the reader need not already be an expert coming in.

Hi, @db042190
In general, for small uses, such as 20 users, a Pro license is recommended when using Power BI, which meets the basic sharing requirements, allows you to share reports with those who have a license, sets up scheduled refreshes for your reports, and so on.
Of course, there is a higher level of license for any product, and Power BI is no exception (Power BI is now part of the fabric).
A higher-level license gives you access to more features, more PPU functionality than Power BI, and access to preview features. In addition, Power BI has a license for Embedded. As the name suggests, it will be available to enterprise users who need a high degree of customization of Power BI reports.
For you, the PPU can get more of a more functional experience, but the price is much more expensive than the PRO license.
Of course, you can purchase F64 level capacity directly, which will allow you to distribute reports to users with a free license with all the features of PRO and PPU.
In my opinion, you need to have a rough estimate of your budget and actual feature requirements before choosing the right license.
Hi @db042190 ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
To use Copilot in Power BI Desktop, you need admin, member, or contributor access to at least a single workspace that is assigned to a paid Fabric capacity (F64 or higher) or Power BI Premium capacity (P1 or higher) that has Copilot enabled.

thx hackcrr, i have to start somewhere. and i'd like for our budget not to be a factor or bias for now. and i'd like to leave embedded etc out of the discussuion.
so i'd like ask the question this way...focusing on ballpark cost only, in an n user environment where all n already have and will keep / be limited to pro licenses, if we want to give 20 of those n a "well" they can go to now and then where the well is a workspace used in the "dumpster" strategy of getting the copilot experience, how much will that workspace cost? pick the lowest cost option as a starting place.
