I am trying out Fabric. Im on trial but it will drop to F2 at some point.
Already incredibly frustrated that this means I wont be able to test Direct Lake connection because seeminly you cant switch between the two.
But it also seems that if you create a Semantic model in Fabric. You can only get data Once. You can't add more data after wards?
I go to the data lake. Choose New Semantic Model. Choose all my facts and dims from the gold data lake. Nowhere does it ask what mode to use. It assumed direct lake connection.
So Then thats it. If you delete the tables and try again there is no get datya option??
I also tried in power BI Desktop. Get data from delta Lake. And again it assumed Direct Lake connection. You try again and thats it. Your options are greyed out. You can't revert back.
Are they sorting these things out because..... I am really having issues with it. I would love to use Direct Lake but I can't because I will end up going to F2 since I am only trialing these things. Fabric has made Power BI alot more problematic for me at least.

Hi. When creating a semantic model from Fabric at browser it will assume direct lake. Yes. That can't be change. The tables can be changed, you can create a new semantic model connected to the lakehouse with that button, then you can pick the tables up. Once created you can still open that same menú to remove or add tables from the lakehouse again or even assume adding all of them if exists. The feature was created like that.
On the other hand, when you are using Desktop, you can decide what to do. SQL Endpoint is import and onelake is directlake. Check this picture out
I hope that helps
