Working with different folder in the gateway endpoint and the local development

Hi,

I am using a local excel file to build a projetct in Power BI Desktop. The same file exists in a server where the Power BI Gateway is installed. The server has a different path for this file. For example, in my computer the file is located in C:\ while in the server the same file is located in D:\.

I published the project on Power BI Service and select the Gateway to autorefresh the data when the excel file would be updated in the server. But the file fullpath is not the same as in my computer so the refresh fails.

If I manual change the file path in my Power BI Desktop, the project brokes and Power Bi doesn't allow me to apply this change. So I supposed to publish the project with the excel filename as it is in my computer. But it is not possible to edit the data filename in the Power BI Service.

I tried to use parameter to choose between the two filenames. But the Power BI Server said me it is not possible to auto refresh data from dynamic path. The autoresh log has an "undefined" message.

What is the best pratice to handle the filename in this cenario?

Hi @carla_menzoil ,

In Power BI Service, if you want to refresh the dataset, your gateway datasource connection info must match to the connection info in .pbix file. For your demands, you can upload the file to OneDrive or Sharpoint, then create a report with this file in Power BI Desktop. Publish to service and configure the dataset settings.

Do not store files on local drives (either your PC or the gateway). Store them on OneDrive/Sharepoint.
