Workaround RLS assignment

Dear community,

is it possible to avoid the assignment of users to roles in the PBI Service?

In detail: RLS

  1. You create a role in Desktop
  2. Publish your app in PBI Service
  3. And apply some users of the workspace to your created roles

But I need an other concept of data securtiy, even easier. I'm about to implement my dashboard into my own web-app by API. I'd like to offer my customer the access-management through my web-app without using PBI Service.

My first idea was to use the current [username/userprincipal] within the repor-level-filter. It sounds easy, effective and absolutely sufficient for my requirements.

Do anyone knows, how to realise that? I wasn't able to filter my userlist by current logged user.

Hope my requirement is clear. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Your demand is a good idea, while it is not supported to apply RLS in dynamic report URL filter in Power BI currently. You can post your new idea in Idea Forum , to improve the Power BI.

It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

As GilbertQ's suggestion, you may refer to the document to configure RLS with Power BI Embedded.

Best Regards,
