Will sharepoint connection continue when Power BI is copied and shared?

Hi, I have created a dashboard that pulls data from a sharepoint site folder. Whenever a new file is added to this folder and the Power BI dashboard is refeshed, the new data is automatically appended.

If I make a copy of this Power BI Dashboard and send it to another person who has access to the sharepoint folder, will the copied file also have the data updating whenever new files are added to the folder and the Power BI is refreshed?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Whenever you copy a pbix file and send it to the next person.  The ENTIRE file - all the visuals, all the measures and columns and all the Power Query steps will be in that file.  So, the first answer is "Yes, that will still work for them."

HOWEVER, as you mentioned, they will need the same permissions.  Also, they will need the same path.  Hopefully you are not using a shared drive or path on your computer but rather the SharePoint online folder method.

So, yes, it will work, BUT, the settings have to be the same.  This is one more reason why we recommend jsut setting this up in the Service - so you don't have to worry about things like that.

Thanks so much @collinq ! Yes, I have connected the data from the Sharepoint to the Power BI using the online folder path, and the next person will have the same permission so it should work. Thanks again.
