I tried to research online.. but couldnt find an answer to when/why is gateway required while using dynamics 365 as a datasource

Hi @mganeshphani,
For your scenario, you could use data gateway (personal mode) or the on- premises data gateway with this option.
More details, you could refer to this document.

Hi @mganeshphani,
Actually, we need to configure the gateway when your data source is on- premises.
If you connect with Dynamics 365 (online), I'm afraid that you don't need to configure the on-premises Gateway.
If you use Microsoft Dynamics 365 (on-premises) for Power BI, scheduled refresh of reports isn’t supported with it that are published to the Power BI service. You can refresh reports using in Microsoft Power BI Desktop or Microsoft Office Excel and then upload the reports to the Power BI service.
For reference, you could have a good look at the documents below to understand gateway better.

What happens when i have a dataset with two datasources in it
-> on-premise DB2
-> Dynamics 365 online
in this case we are using on-premise data gateway to refresh the dataset.
when a refresh happens, is dynamics365 also refreshed using gateway or premium workspace directly contacts dynamics365 online?
