User or group access limit for DATASET
I am aware that you can have at most 100 users or gorups in the access list for an APP.
Is there a similar limit for granting access to a dataset?

Hi Anonymous
The app you mentioned has a 100 user limit, it's just that you can only drop 100 users or groups in its share list, it doesn't mean 100 users.
I found a few articles about its limitations.
βAt most, you can share with 100 users or groups in a single share action. However, you can give more than 500 users access to an item.β
Dateset also has such a shared access list, so dateset has such a restriction. What do you think?

v-chenwuz-msft Well I was looking for a documented confirmation - it clearly states here in under considerations and limitations that APPS have the 100 users or groups limit. I was trying to confirm assigning users/groups to a DATASET had the same limit. Does your response confirm the limit for datasets?

Hi Anonymous
You're right the documentation says Apps have a 100 user or group limit. The maximum an Azure AD group can have in it is 50,000. so you could have 100 groups of 50,000 members each.. well, you do the math π
That limit is simply because the list of user or group names you can enter is limited to 100 on the App user interface.
There's no limit to the number of users you can grant access to on a Dataset. I can find no documentation that confirms this, but others have asked the same question in the past, see here ..

Functionally, you may experience slow response if you get to a large number of concurrent users (Large probabaly here means in the tens of thousands), espacially if you are not on a Premium Capacity, but there seems to be no limit to the number.
Hope this helps

Burningsuit Thanks for the reponse. I guess I am not being clear. The USER limit is not my concern - my concern is the limit of 100 USERS/GROUPS for a dataset. This limit is clearly documented for APPS - I wanted to confirm if this same limit existed for DATASETS. It seems you are saying that, YES, you can only include 100 USERS/GROUPS on dataset permissions (limited by UI) same as documented for APPS.
