Usage Metrics for Excel Online content?

I have uploaded several reports/tools in an App for users to access via excel online and am hoping to track who has reviewed/used the data. Unfortuately it does not appear there is the option to have usage/access metrics for this type of content on PowerBI. Is it possible to track usage for data that is not a BI report/dashboard based?

Currently the usage metrics report feature are only supported for dashboards and reports, analyze in excel is not supported. Please refer this document: Monitor usage metrics for Power BI dashboards and reports 

If you have access to Microsoft admin center, you can check the audit logs about analyze power bi dataset and power bi report, refer:

Operations available in the audit and activity logs 

In addition, here is an idea about Analyze in Excel usage metric, you can vote for it to help us improve power bi and make this feature coming sooner.

I assume you mean "Analyze in Excel". Your tenant admin has audit logs that can give you that data.
