Updating a Shared File Help

Hello All,

I currently have a shared Power BI file in a SharePoint folder with other co workers, and they are currently able to go in, edit the file, and re-upload it fine. However, when they (None File Owners) try to "Refresh" the file with new data in the source it pops up with the path error below. I have the file pulling directly from another shared SharePoint folder, so I figured if they'd have access to the folder with the source files it would update but apparently not.

I've granted access to all permissions on both Power BI and SharePoint folders so I don't really understand what the issue is. Anyinsight would be fantastic.Error.PNG

Problem is solved. There was an issue with sign in permissions that had to be changed in settings

Hi @Anonymous

The issue is because the path of the files is located using a local onedrive folder on your PC.

As per the error it is looking for the files in a folder called C:\users\USERNAME\....

Each user will have a different USERNAME in their local PC and that is why it is not refreshing.

What you need to do is to change the location of the files to look at SharePoint online.

Here is an example on how to do this: Loading Excel Files from Sharepoint - (powerbi.tips)

Hey @GilbertQ

Thank you for the clarification that makes total sense. However, when I try to follow the steps of the link you sent. I receive this error message. Is this an issue with Power BI or Sharepoint and how would I solve this? I am using the correct credentials and am logged onto both Sharepoint and Power BI

Hi @Anonymous

You will need to sign in with the "Microsoft Account"

once that is done then click on Connect.

Make sure that you can access the same SharePoint URL in the connection.

Hey @GilbertQ

That is the "Microsoft Account" login attempt. None of those 3 options work which is why I think it may be an issue with the organizational account.

Thanks
