I'm trying to overwrite a dataset on the service with an updated version. Without impacting reports that are linked to that dataset.
Help please!
This is what a did:
1. I created a complex datamodel in excel/powerpivot.
2. published to Service.
3. created PowerBI reports in PBI desktop, by connecting to the "Power Bi Datasets" (connec to datasets on the PBI service)
4. Publish PBI reports to Service.
Now, I want to modify the dataset. Add some measures, calculated columns, etc..
However, when I try to repeat the steps 1 and 2 above, i either end up with a duplicate dataset on the service that has the same name. Or I get an error in excel that says "Workbook already exists".
So I'm not sure what to do. I dont want to have to recreate all my reports every time i need to modify the dataset.

Point number 1 was your mistake. Recreate your dataset in Power BI Desktop and set up a development process that starts at the beginning, not in the middle.
