Unable to connect to gateway in power bi service with excel source

I have a power bi report with excel data source.Someone else made the report. They emailed me both the excel file and pbix file. i saved it in downloads.   I am having a problem in the power bi service when I try to add the gateway for the new connection.

When I am prompted to enter the username and password, there is a sentence that says "The credentials are encrypted using the key stored on-premises on the gateway server".

I don´t know how to obtain those credentials in order to add the gateway.

Also after I put in my username password, I get the following error

Please guide me through the process.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @beginnerPBIuser

The error is saying that it cannot find the file in the location specified in the Power BI PBIX file.

What you need to do is in your Power BI PBIX file point it to the location where it is saved on your PC.

Then in the data source, point this to the SAME location.

I saved the excel file and pbix file in C drive(local). then i published the pbix file to power bi service. the file path is same in pbix file on desktop and same in data source setting. I am still getting the same error.

I dont have  apersonal gate just an enterprise level gateway. Is this whats affecting my capability to set a gateway connection?
