Unable to Create New Folder in Workspace

Dear Team,

 

I am attaching two screenshots regarding my issue. Please help me resolve it.

1. In my workspace, I can create a New folder and the New folder option is enabled.

Issue:

2. I’ve created a workspace under my personal account to share files with my team members. I also have admin rights for this workspace. However, I’m currently unable to create a new folder — the "New Folder" option is disabled (greyed out).

Could you please help me with the following:

  1. Why is the "New Folder" option disabled despite having admin rights?

  2. How can I enable this feature to create folders in this workspace?

  3. Alternatively, please assist me in creating folders in another workspace if this one has limitations.

Hi @chauh-dp ,

Thank you for engaging with the Microsoft Fabric Community. I did a quick check from my side, and the  New Folder option is functioning correctly in my personal workspace, indicating that the feature is available and enabled in Power BI.

However, in shared or organizational workspaces, certain features like folder creation may not be accessible, even with Admin rights, if the workspace is using the classic (older) experience. Based on your screenshot, it appears that the workspace you are using is a classic workspace, which does not support folders. This limitation applies regardless of your role.

 

Please check if the workspace settings include an Upgrade option. If available, you can upgrade the workspace to the modern experience, enabling folder creation.

 

If the upgrade option is not available, you may create a new modern workspace. Once created, you can transfer or re publish your reports and datasets into the new workspace, where folder creation and full collaboration features will be available by default.

Hi @chauh-dp 

From your screenshot, I see that your workspace is a Template App workspace. According to the limitations listed here, folders are not supported for Template App workspaces

 

If you create a standard workspace without selecting Advanced > Develop Template Apps, you should be able to create folders.
