URL string filter for external users

Hello all.

We have a PowerBI app and using URL strings to filter it. Having few concerns about it:

1. Hidden visuals (slicers) - will they work ( I mean get filtered) when used in URL?

2. Upon giving an access to external users, can we still give them URL with filters ? So for example internally I use this link:
https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/cb51d8c2-4ebc-485f-907f-6cb0f1758f0a/reports/1b09bd5e-e58f-44...
externally (other tenant) I get an error. Can you advise if there are any conditions to be met for this to work ?

I found a solution elsewhere but post it here as it may be usefull.

So my link example was https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/cb51d8c2-4ebc-485f-907f-6cb0f158f0a/reports/1b09bde-e58f-44e2...

Basic part: app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/AppID/
The second part is referring to the report id in the app.
  • /reports/ReportID
Third part is the report section, which represents the page in the report.
  • /reportsection{GUID}
Fourth part should be the tenant ID (CTID). This should be the CTID of the tenant where the report is published
  • ?ctid={tenantId}

But I did not use it since putting tenant ID starting with '?' and then again adding filter string parameter starting with '?filter' caused me another error. So solution to that was to use CTID and add filter string starting with '&'. So the solution whch worked looks like the following: https://app.powerbi.com/groups/me/apps/cb51d8c2-4ebc-485f-907f-6cb0f158f0a/reports/1b09bde-e58f-44e2...

Hi @Aleksandra_MLT ,

This can happen sometimes if you have multiple accounts, or if your default browser is different to the one you usually use and are signed into another account.

Can you find the report if you:

  • navigate to app.powerbi.com
  • go to the workspoace you published to
  • Expand the workspace, and look under reports

If this post helps, then please consider Accept it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.

Best Regards

Can you verify that the external user has valid credentials to access the report? Power BI is not designed so that anyone with the URL can view the report (with the exception of Publish to Web) as this would be highly insecure.

@AlexisOlson on the other side is me ( and the users) so I am sure I have access.
