Static link to report in Power BI app, Is it possible?

Is it possible to make a static link to a power bi report on Power BI app?

The link is always changing every time I republish the report in a workspace. It's critical for the user to have a stable, fixed link. Otherwise he would have to search for the report in the power bi app every time, among the long list of other reporths in the app.

Hi @Raaassotto ,

Whenever an app is created, a static link is automatically generated. As long as the created app is not modified, the static link will always take effect. If the app is updated, the link will be automatically updated, and the app opened by the original link will report an error.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information and let me know immediately. Looking forward to your reply.

Best Regards,
Henry

Hi @v-henryk-mstf

Explanation of the problem in every detail follows:

I created 2 workspaces Admin and ForPublicastions. Admin workspace has datasets and reports. And ForPublications workspace is used for an App. It has reports without datasets

Reports are edited quite often. To edit the report in the App on the ForPublications workspace we have to do the following steps:

  • Publish the edited report in the Admin workspace
  • Delete the outdated copy of the report in the ForPublications workspace
  • Update the App in the ForPublications workspace
  • Copy the report from Admin to ForPublications workspace, restore the order of the report in the App list
  • Update App in the ForPublications workspace

After this report edition procedure is completed, the former link to the report is changed.

The stable link to the report on the App is of critical importance. And that is the problem. Furthermore, one report has to be in several Apps.

Hi @Raaassotto

The link you get when you create an app will not change.

Just make sure to use the link when you update the app as shown below:
