Speed optimization via different SQL data set refresh schedules - Is it possible?

Hi Community,

Need your advice.

My current Gateway refresh consumes a lot of time (~20 mins) since it is pulling in 6.6 million data records from a SQL table (Main View). These refreshes are scheduled every 2 hours.

I am thinking of setting up the following architechture, where I split the data into two views.

View 1 has 600,000 records that will be refreshed every 2 hours in the SQL Server.

View 2 has 6 millions records that will be refreshed once a day.

Both need to feed into my Power BI report. My question is related to scheduling the refresh.

Is there a way to configure the Gateway so that the 2 hourly refreshes will only refresh the 600,000 records from View 1 and enable for a faster completion? The big (time consuming refresh) can be done at night time as a one time 6.6 million record refresh (combining data from View 1 and View 2).

Hi there

As far as I can think there is no way to currently automate this because you cannot change the underlying views on the fly to change the view.

The only thing I can think of is in your Power Query Editor to build in some logic to view the time and based on the time of day to dynamically change which view to use?
