Sharing a report without accessing the dataset

Hello guys, 
I'd love to know if a user can have access to the report, but not to the dataset? 
I understand that when we share a report/dashboard the access to the dataset is automatically given, but I came across a situation at work, where a user had access to the report, but not to the dataset. What woukd be the reason?

hi @ROG 

Following cane be the options-

• You can add the person to the workspace with the "viewer" role. That way he can only access report and not the dataset.
• While sharing a report , make sure to uncheck the checkbox like below-
