Set default filter value

Hi,

I have a date slicer in my report that I Fix to the current year. So currently it is showing data up from 01/01/2020 up until today. My calender is dynamically updated so it only has data up to today.

I put this report on the PBI Service and let it update automatically daily. The issue is that the slicer stays at 04/12/2020, but I would like to have it extend automatically. How do I do this?

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

You should create a calendar table like this.

v-lionel-msft_0-1607329620433.png

Then set the default value of the slicer to this.

v-lionel-msft_1-1607329753392.png

Or set the default value to this.

v-lionel-msft_2-1607329780782.png

The maximum value of the slicer is automatically updated when the calendar table is updated.

HI @v-lionel-msft,

Thanks for the answer. This seems to be what I'm looking for. But doing this, the slicer does not automatically update for me. What am I doing wrong?

The second photo you show is not an option for me, because the users also want to be able to filter on the end date.

Regards

Hi @Anonymous ,

So strange!

If you create such a calendar table, the maximum value of the date column is always today.
As long as the rightmost end of your slicer is always at the maximum value, this value will be updated as the calendar table is updated.

In addition, the Service uses UTC time, and the return value of the Today() function may be inconsistent with the local.

Best regards,
Lionel Chen

HI @Anonymous ,

When you first publish the report, if you have anything set in your filters or slicers to a specific date then that will be the default whenever you open the report.  You should be able to put it back to today and then publish it.  Depending on how the slicer works it will either keep the default at "today" or "yesterday" OR it may also change the default to the date of when you last published it.  That is whey I have my filters set to the relative date of today so that it is always current on the publish.

I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!

Hi @collinq ,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I want my slicer to update to the current day without having to republish it. How do I make it take "today"?

Regards

HI @Anonymous ,

I think that the solution provided by @v-lionel-msft is fine and should work for you and allow folks to change the date.  My suggestion was to use the filter and use relative date and set it to today.  Both solutions, mine and the one by @v-lionel-msft will work and allow for folks to change the date if needed (to any past date).

I would appreciate Kudos if my response was helpful. I would also appreciate it if you would Mark this As a Solution if it solved the problem. Thanks!
