Service Error - Need Help Please!

Hello PowerBi Experts,

I have following this issue can someone please guide how to solve this issue in service.

I currently have my data connected through 3 sources: SQL, Sharepoint and Odata (for my HRIS system). And during refresh i keep getting this error message. I read other posts that recommended adding sharepoint as a gateway but is that applicable in this case since i have a 3rd connection.

Hi @ritaok,
Thanks for the update. You’re on the right track.

Mixing on-prem sources (via gateway) with cloud sources (especially personal cloud connections) can sometimes cause refresh issues due to credential or connection context mismatches.

Since you’ve updated the connections (standard cloud connection + proper mapping), you can try triggering a refresh again and check if the issue still persists. Also, please ensure all sources are using consistent authentication (organizational account).

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you!

Hello @ritaok,

You’re mixing SQL on a gateway with SharePoint and OData in the cloud, and the OData connection is set up as a personal cloud connection. That can cause refresh to fail when multiple sources are involved.

Recreate the OData connection as a normal cloud connection (not personal), sign in with your org account, and then remap it in the dataset settings.

Then just double check all sources are mapped and using the same type of credentials.

Good morning, and thank you for your response @Olufemi7 !

I made the update below to create a gateway for SharePoint and switched OData from a personal connection to the standard cloud connection. Is that the right approach?

Thank you!

You should not merge on-prem and cloud data sources.

If you really have to , go to the gateway settings and "allow cloud data sources to be refreshed through this gateway"

But really, don't do it.  There is no need for a gateway for cloud connections.

Hi @lbendlin

I already have the "allow cloud data sources to be refreshed through this gateway" turned on.

Could you please explain what you mean by "There is no need for a gateway for cloud connections"? If there's no gateway for cloud connections, do I simply try to connect directly?

Thank you!
