Selecting multiple elements via a rectangular lasso doesn't work anymore in powerbi services

Hi all,

I have following problem: If I try to select multiple elements via via a rectangular lasso in PowerBI Services, they aren't selected - it only selects the element which is in the upper left corner - even if this element isn't in the selected area.  For PowerBI Desktop this still works.

For reference:

"Select multiple visuals and other report elements by clicking and dragging over the canvas to create a rectangular lasso."

Hi @v-yueyunzh-msft ,
thanks a lot for you quick testing and feedback.
I'm not 100% sure if you tested the same thing. What I don't understand from your response is, the part about beeing in the "reading view". From my perspective this dosen't make sense. The usecase is "select multiple elements using rectangle select" in the "editing view". Only there it make sense so select multiple elements in my perspective. I tested it with the newst edge and chrome browser versions. And I also tested holding "Ctrl" key while selectzing a rectangle with the mouse. THis also didn't help.  Could you please confirm, that you tested editing mode and you were able to select multiple elements with the rectangle mouse select?  Thanks a lot for your support

Hi, @max_31

I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. According to my tests, there was no problem with "select multiple elements using rectangle select" in Power BI Serice's Editing View. The reault is as follows:

You can try holding down the "Ctrl" or "Shift" button with the left mouse button and clicking Select Unit Module to see if it works.

Hi @v-yueyunzh-msft ,

thank you for you response.

Yes, using "Ctrl" or "Shift" button works fine to mutiselct elements.  But the feature which isn't working anymore, is following:   clicking( and holding) your left mouse button, then creating a ''rectangular lasso''(by moving the mouse) and by by putting your finger off the left mouse button selcting all elements/visuals in this area.  This worked before and was used by serveral ppl in my company.

This doesn't work anymore and just selects the uppest left element ( even if it isn't in the selected area).  Could you please recheck?  Thanks for your help

as reference from your link:

Select multiple visuals on the canvas

Select multiple visuals and other report elements by clicking and dragging over the canvas to create a rectangular lasso. All visuals that are entirely encapsulated within the lasso are selected.

Hi , @max_31

According to your description, I did the test of creating a "rectangular lasso" again, and the read view of the service report is still achievable, if you can provide the following motion picture capture or screen recording video that you describe that cannot be achieved.

Hi , @max_31

Based on my tests, I can implement "Select multiple elements using rectangle select" in a report published to the service after holding down the "Ctrl" key, you can first try to open the report with the latest version of the ChromeEdge browser and try this feature, and please make sure you are in the "Reading view" view in the Power BI Service , if you can also reproduce the problem here, you can conveniently record a video that reproduces the problem and provide a version of your browser.

Aniya Zhang
