Scheduled Refresh

Hi,

I have Power BI desktop and have downloaded/setup the gateway to do scheduled Refresh of the data set for the Dashboard I publish. However, the refresh fails. I tried to add the connection to the gateway and I get this error.

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)"

Please advise.

Hello @cmelgar,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.

After thoroughly reviewing the details you provided, here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

  • Check that the connection string used in Power BI Desktop matches the one configured in the gateway. The server name should be in the format "Servername, portnumber".
  • Make sure that the on-premises data gateway is properly set up and configured. The gateway acts as a bridge between the Power BI service and the on-premises data source.
  • Review the gateway logs for any specific error messages or clues that might indicate what is causing the connection issue.

use a comma, not a colon, for the port divider
