Schedule Refresh - Data Source Credentials

Hello Everyone.

I have a report with  5 Data Source.

Web - 2 Source

SQL Server - 1

Share Point - 1

Power BI Dataset - 1

Report working fine and am ablet to built visuals. But I'm not able to scheudle refresh. The Credentials for the source which I connected to Direct Query Power BI Dataset is not working. Rest all credentials good. But for this one either way I tried it wont accept. I tried all the Authenticate Method.

I got error message as below.

"Failed to update data source credentials: AnalysisServices: Failed to resolve the core XMLA server"

Can somebody help me. I think there is some recent update with Power BI Service? I used to connect like this before and never had a problem.

Hi @EbyEaso ,

According to your description, here is my suggestion.

Power BI Premium, Premium Per User, and Power BI Embedded workspaces support open-platform connectivity from Microsoft and third-party client applications and tools by using an XMLA endpoint. Please change your workspaces to Premium/Premium Per User/Embedded and then try to configure the credentials for the data sources. But by default, Premium capacity or Premium Per User dataset workloads have the XMLA endpoint property setting enabled for read-only. So, you need to enable XMLA read-write.

Please refer to the following documents.

Dataset connectivity and management with the XMLA endpoint in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Also, if your ticket has the effective answers, could you please provide the solution to help more people?

All,

Just to give an update. I have created a support ticket and got an update from Mictorosft Support Team.

This issue is a current known issue being worked upon by the Microsoft Power BI team actively. Our team shall soon announce the ETA for bug fix deployment, as a workaround it is recommended by the Microsoft Product group team to move your workspace to Premium Per User/ Premium capacity temporarily to configure the data source credentials.

Once the dataset is configured with credentials, then please move back the workspace to Shared. This should mitigate the issue for now until the bug fix is deployed.
