Hello community,
The dataset refresh if failing continuously due to SQL timeout error. However if refreshed manually the same dataset is getting refreshed correctly.
The error message is as follows :-
Microsoft SQL: Execution Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
Can anyone suggest what am I missing here and what needs to be done to ensure smoothe scheduled refresh ?
Thanks.
Hi. By default SQL Server has a 10 minute window for a single query/table to refresh. You can increase that time at Power Bi Desktop. Open the file.pbix go to Power Query editor (Transform data menu). Check the first step of the biggest table or all the tables involved (as you wish). You can click the settings icon next to the source step and open de advanced settings or check the code turning on the formula bar.
The docs specify there is a commandTimeout window that you can increase:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powerquery-m/sql-database
The code would be something like:
= Sql.Database(Server_Name, Database_Name , [CommandTimeout = #duration(0,0,20,0)] )
For example that would be a duration of 20 minutes.
I hope that helps,
Happy to help!
