Row Level Security

Hi Community,

I created the Report in PowerBi desktop and Published in the PowerBI service. In the workspace  we have 4 users each of them from different region, I need to set the RLS from the user table. The requirement is I should not use the available option "Manage Roles" in PowerBi desktop.

KIndly share your thoughts!!!

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous

If you want to use RLS in your report , "Manage Roles" is required . If you don’t want to use “Manage Roles”, you need to create different reports for these users and assign them access rights to different reports .

Another situation is that your data modeling and role permissions are handled in the data source, then you can set RLS directly in the data source without setting it in Desktop. You can refer to the case of applying RLS in SSAS

Hello all! 👋

I'm with Tart.Tech, an Iranian BI company. Our "Tart" (The ART of data visualization) software allows you to set up Row Level Security (RLS) directly through the UI, eliminating the need to modify the data management layer.

@Anonymous

In that case the (No RLS), create 4 different reports for each region and publish them to 4 different workspaces and give access to every one separatly.

Can you explain why you can't use manage roles? If you have a user table you're talking about dynamic RLS but the logic still needs to be recorded in a role. Everyone just gets added to that one role.
