Row Level Security 'error' - no RLS in use

On a number of occasions, my users are getting issues that they're getting a message along the lines of;

You can't see the content of this report becuase you dont have permission to the underlying dataset.  The underlying dataset uses row-level security (RLS). Contact the dataset owner [User who published the report] to view this report.

The users previously had no issue viewing the data, the report/dashboard/app hasn't been republished, and when the report/dashboard/app was deleted from the service, and re-published, the issue was solved.  We dont use RLS.

However - I don't consider this to be resolved, becuase its a rediculous process to expect my users to do when PBI gettings its metadata in a tizzy.  What can we do to do a deep diagnosis when this occurs?  Are we able to look closer at the back end in any of the Azure/M365 administrative interfaces?

Hi @ChrisOnesBroken ,

This is a bug. Please upgrade your gateway to the latest version.

Reference: The report can't be viewed because the underlying dataset uses row-level security(RLS)

Best Regards,

Stephen Tao

Stephen, we're on the 3000.68.8 (December 2020(Release 1)) on our gateways.  We'll have a go at updating the gateway versions.

Hi @ChrisOnesBroken

I have also seen this happen from time to time.

What I have done is to log out of the Power BI Service and log back in. That sometimes resolves the issue.

If it still persists I would then log a support ticket for further investigation by the Power BI team.
